I think a big reason sex has always been so interesting to me is because I discovered self-pleasure at a very young age. I was so young, I didn't even know what sex was. But, I knew it felt good to have orgasms, and I loved having them.
I would stay up late watching Loveline with Dr. Drew and Adam Carolla, Real Sex on HBO, and Talk Sex with Sue. I became fascinated with all aspects of sex. I discovered porn at a young age and found it so intriguing. I wanted to learn about it, not just watch it.
In my high school public speaking class, I chose an infamous porn star as the subject for a biographical speech. In my undergraduate public speaking class, I argued for using condoms for my persuasive speech. I also regularly posted sex tips in the bathroom stalls of a sorority just house for fun.
Learning and talking about sex has always been an interest of mine. But, it went from fun to serious when I found out I had genital herpes (Type 1) just before my 22nd birthday. It was a huge learning experience and really opened my eyes to many things I had taken for granted. Things like STI testing (eg. herpes isn't included on a standard panel), the stigmatization of STIs (hoo boy, it's bad), and just how important communication is in relationships. It was this event that turned me towards Public Health and Sexual Health Education.
Helping people with sex and relationships is something I've been doing for a long time. Becoming a Certified Somatica Sex and Relationship Coach was a natural next step for me in my career, as it allows me to really share what I love. Orgasms. You get an orgasm! And you get an orgasm! And you get an orgasm! We all get orgasms! 🙌 😊
