Meet Your Coach

Mandy Hart

I think a big reason sex has always been so interesting to me is because I discovered self-pleasure at a very young age. I was so young, I didn't even know what sex was. But, I knew it felt good to have orgasms, and I loved having them.

I would stay up late watching Loveline with Dr. Drew and Adam Carolla, Real Sex on HBO, and Talk Sex with Sue. I became fascinated with all aspects of sex. I discovered porn at a young age and found it so intriguing. I wanted to learn about it, not just watch it.

In my high school public speaking class, I chose an infamous porn star as the subject for a biographical speech. In my undergraduate public speaking class, I argued for using condoms for my persuasive speech. I also regularly posted sex tips in the bathroom stalls of a sorority just house for fun.

Learning and talking about sex has always been an interest of mine. But, it went from fun to serious when I found out I had genital herpes (Type 1) just before my 22nd birthday. It was a huge learning experience and really opened my eyes to many things I had taken for granted. Things like STI testing (eg. herpes isn't included on a standard panel), the stigmatization of STIs (hoo boy, it's bad), and just how important communication is in relationships. It was this event that turned me towards Public Health and Sexual Health Education.

Helping people with sex and relationships is something I've been doing for a long time. Becoming a Certified Somatica Sex and Relationship Coach was a natural next step for me in my career, as it allows me to really share what I love. Orgasms. You get an orgasm! And you get an orgasm! And you get an orgasm! We all get orgasms! 🙌 😊

Sex and Relationship Coaching/Counseling

With a mother who worked as an RN for an OBGYN, I was exposed to matters of sexual health starting at a young age. My first experience in the field was at their clinic when I was still in grade school.

As a part of my Master's program, I worked with a non-profit that helped African immigrants and refugees integrate into their new lives in America. I taught sexual health education and provided resources such as information and condoms to help encourage and promote safe sex.

I was also a part of a team that evaluated a text-based sexual health education program in the Boys And Girls Clubs of America. The program provided information about general health as well as safe sex practices. It also promoted body-positivity and sought to empower young adults to advocate for themselves, especially when it came to their sexual health.

After my graduate program, I spent 2 years working as a research coordinator in one of the world's top respiratory hospitals. I interviewed people living with chronic disease and their caregivers (most often their spouses/partners).

Much of our research was focused on quality of life, so I inquired about their lives before and after their diagnosis. What made their days good? Bad? Unsurprisingly, the topic of sex came up often. I learned a lot about how chronic illness affects relationships, both physically and mentally.

My education and background in Public Health gives me a unique perspective on human behavior and relationships. In my program, I concentrated on Community and Behavioral Health, heavily through the lens of Sexual Health Education and Programming. I learned how to set realistic goals and identify the steps needed to reach those goals, which can be done on an individual level, relationship level, or even a group and community level.

Combining what I learned about behavioral health with a somatic approach to intimacy and relationship coaching, I feel confident I can help my clients identify and set realistic goals, and work towards those goals using practical and accessible methods and tools.

Simply put, I can help you figure out what you really desire and need, what's stopping or holding you back, and what you can do to get those needs met. I can't promise you'll get everything you want, because that's not within my control. However, I can help you work on making the most out of what you have and develop the confidence to go after what you desire.
